| .Nelda,
bless her heart, has been gone from us for a couple of years
now. We miss her simplicity, her willingness to be of any assistance, the way she always had a cheerful smile for the public,( even when she was ailing ), and I for one particularly miss her buzzing around the tables during our pancake feeds. She would always show up early and begin her help by wrapping the silverware in napkins, then move on to see if the coffee has been made and finally, to light a fire under me to get me started in the right direction serving coffee, tea or milk. .She was always happy to greet you on the street, in the store and even sometimes, she would call for me to drop by to fix her computer, (even though it wasn't broke). I think perhaps she was lonely on those days and just wanted someone to stop in and have a cup of coffee with her. I didn't mind, she was a pleasant woman and talked endlessly about her late husband and how HE was in the Navy also. I enjoyed listening to her stories about him, while watching her cat look for a sunny spot to loaf. .The only time that I recall Nelda expressing sadness was when she was preparing to move out of state so she could be cared for by relatives. She seemed to want to stay and watch over her friends here in Oberlin. .We do still miss her so, we bring her name up in conversation to keep her memory alive and smile at the thought of her. God bless you dear Nelda......Walt ![]() |
